Responsibilities of an IAS officer

- State Secretariat or Undertakings in the Public Sector.

The legislative power of the IAS officer
In compliance with the Indian Penal Procedure Code (1973), Sections 107,108,109,110,133,144 and 176 provide for the competences provided to the magistrates with regard for the preservation of law and order.
- Tenancy laws define a collector ‘s revenue powers.
- The National Disaster Management Act lays down the competences of chief secretaries and judges in charge of disaster relief.
- List the powers of officers of the IAS to enforce regulations in a different situation. Arms Act, drug licenses, Essential Commodity Act etc.
These are the principal legislation dealing with the IAS’s powers, but almost 300 laws are defined on a case-by-case basis. The career path that most IAS officers take is the following. The career paths differ according to the allocated frame after probation.

- Phase II LBSNAA training includes a week’s foreign affiliate with a diplomatic mission from India abroad.
- Attachment of central government to the titular role for three months of an assistant secretary.
- SDM / Joint Judge / Sub collector
- Town Commissar, DDO / CDO. Posting.
- DM / Collector shipping.
- Secretarial appointment at the rank of officer and Joint Secretary.
- After many years of service, membership of the Central Government may be selected at any point of service.
- Head / Secretary of State / Central Secretariat. Secretary / additional.

The rank of Indian Cabinet secretary is the highest role an IAS officer may pursue. Chief Secretary of State is the federal department that is maximumly practicable.
